Kansas Linux Fest 2015

Boy, did I have a great weekend. Kansas Linux Fest 2015 was an incredible success. We had well over the 130 attendees who signed up on Eventbrite show up throughout the weekend and every single one of them brought a ton of excitement and energy to the first annual Kansas Linux Fest conference.

We had a great many people from all over the state of Kansas, from Wichita to Manhattan, to KCK, and obviously from the host town – Lawrence, as well as everywhere in between.

As well as attendees we also had some amazing sponsors – among them were Rackspace, CA&L Testing, Wicked Broadband/Lawrence Center for Entrepreneurship, Lawrence Public Library (the venue, which was great) and Linux Pro Magazine donated a bunch of magazines. They are worth a big thanks for their time and money contributed to making this Fest a success.

Also a big sponsor, the biggest monetarily, were attendees – donating over $1000. We are so happy to have a great community willing to give of their own money to see the Fest be a success, we will make sure to use the money in order to continue doing great events and also to help go towards next year’s fest.

A special thanks should go out to Mike Dupont as he put a lot of time and effort into the project as well as all the speakers, which you can find the schedule here as well as information about the speakers: http://lanyrd.com/2015/klf15/schedule/

I made a bunch of new friends and had a great time simply hanging out with other attendees, I hope that we can organize and have an even better event next year!

If you would like to get involved, please check out http://openkansas.us and http://kansaslinuxfest.us – join the IRC channel of Freenode #openkansas. If you are in Lawrence please join the Lawrence LUG Meetup. We will try and put even more information on the Open Kansas website regarding how to participate so that everyone can contribute to next years events and those in between.
